Bihar Diwas – What you know about it?

Today is Bihar Diwas, and many of us are aware of this auspicious day but very few know about its ethnicity and origination.

What is it ? Why its being celebrated ?

I made my mind and today i am writing a short but full description about our Bihar Diwas.

Bihar Diwas observed every year on March 22, marking the formation of the state of Bihar. It was on this day when the British carved out the state from Bengal Presidency in 1912.

The Day is a public Holiday in Bihar. It was started and celebrated on large scale by Bihar Government in the tenure of Nitish Kumar. Apart from India, it is celebrated in countries including United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mauritius.

Every year the Government of Bihar issues a notification declaring the 22 March to be a public holiday to be celebrated as Bihar Diwas. This holiday applies to all the offices and companies under the jurisdiction of the State and central Government as well as Schools celebrate this day by organising various programmes participated by students

Bihar Diwas From 2010 :

When Nitish Kumar took charge as the chief minister of Bihar, he was looking for a commemorative event in Bihar’s history that could become the state’s official day of celebration. The fact that Bihar had been carved out from Bengal Presidency on 22 March 1912, was now the birthday of Bihar. Ever since then, the day is celebrated across the state as Bihar Diwas. Numerous state functions and children’s activities are held on this day in Gandhi Maidan,Patna.

I wish Bihar a Happy Bihar Diwas and proud to be a Bihari 🙂
